A van driver has pled guilty to a charge of dangerous driving following a head-on crash on the A68 near Camptown last summer, which left a 14-year-old boy in hospital with serious injuries.

Forty-seven-year-old Sean Rhind, from Kirkcaldy, also admitted driving the red Transit whilst under the influence of controlled drugs - Benzoylecgonne and Methylamphetamine - when the case called at Jedburgh Sheriff Court today (Monday), after crossing onto the wrong side of the road and colliding with a car.

The incident unfolded on the cross-border route - not far from the Scotland-England border - around 4.20pm on Sunday, June 30th.

According to police at the time, the teenager, who was a front seat passenger in the black Volkswagen Sharan, was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The 47-year-old woman driving the car and two back seat passengers – an 11-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl – were all taken to Borders General Hospital.

The road was closed between Jedburgh and the Carter Bar for more than four hours while road traffic investigators examined the scene and the wreckage was cleared.

Sentence has been deferred at Jedburgh Sheriff Court until February 10th for background reports, and Rhind has been disqualified from driving meantime.
