A 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with a series of thefts of vehicles and equipment in the Scottish Borders estimated to worth more than £200,000.

It follows the recovery of a number of the stolen items in County Durham.

An investigation was launched following break-ins in Galashiels, Duns and Kelso, between May 2023 and May 2024.

Police say enquiries remain ongoing and the man is expected to appear at court at a later date.

Detective Constable Callum Wood, from Hawick’s Proactive Crime Team, said: “We’d like to thank the public for their assistance with our ongoing enquiries into these incidents and reassure them that acquisitive crime remains a local priority we are committed to.

“If anyone has any concerns about criminality in their area, they can report this to police on 101, or 999 in an emergency.”
