Pensioner remains in hospital following latest crash on A1

A man in his 70s has suffered serious injuries following a two-vehicle collision on the A1 in Northumberland.
Emergency services raced to the scene at Belford after the alarm was raised around 4.15pm yesterday (Wednesday).
And the cross-border route was closed while the wreckage was cleared.
The pensioner was taken to hospital where is remains in a stable condition.
It's the latest in a series of serious smashes in our region in recent weeks.
Three people were taken to hospital following a two-vehicle collision on the A1, near Cockburnspath, on Tuesday.
And three people died after two motorcycles collided on the A6088 road - between Bonchester Bridge and the Carter Bar - on Sunday.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 4.15pm yesterday (Wednesday), we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A1 at Belford in Northumberland.
“Emergency services attended and a man in his 70s was found to have sustained serious injuries.
“He was taken to hospital by paramedics for treatment of his injuries where he remains in a stable condition.
“A section of the road was closed in both directions to allow for recovery of the vehicles involved and was later re-opened.”
