Search launched for driver of 'small blue car' following crash which left motorcyclist in hospital

Police are searching for the driver of a small blue car following a crash in the Borders which left a motorcyclist in hospital.

Three vehicles were involved in the incident which unfolded at the junction of the A701 and A72, south of Blyth Bridge, around midday on Saturday.

A red Aprilia motorbike, a grey BMW and a small car were involved.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised and the 56-year-old man riding the motorbike was taken to The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

The road was closed for more than eight hours while police crash investigators examined the area.

Officers are today issuing an appeal to the public for information.

Police Sergeant Dominic Doyle, from Police Scotland's Road Policing Unit, said: “We are continuing with our enquiries into the crash and would like to trace the driver of the small car, which was blue in colour.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have dash-cam footage and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.

“The road re-opened at 8.10pm on Saturday, 18 May, 2023. I want to thank members of the public for their patience while we investigated this serious crash.”
