Manhunt launched following fire at public toilets in Peebles

Police say a fire at public toilets in Peebles could have caused "significant damage" if it wasn't discovered quickly.

A plastic toilet roll holder, and paper, was deliberately set alight at the loos in the East Station car park sometime between 5pm and 7pm last night (Sunday, April 2nd).

Officers want to speak to a man who was seen entering the building.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

PC Vivienne Carlsey, of Police Scotland, said: “Thankfully, the fire was discovered quickly, as this could have caused significant damage.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting 3217 of Sunday, April 2nd, 2023.”

Meanwhile, motorists are being warned to watch out for children playing in the streets "at all times of the day" now the lighter nights have arrived.

Officers have been carrying out speed checks in Chirnside after residents raised concerns over the speed of traffic.

Four advisory warnings were issued during yesterday's monitoring exercise.
