A 19-year-old kitchen porter who smashed two shop windows in Peebles town centre has been fined a total of £110 and ordered to pay each business £300 in compensation.

Cameron Sinclair suffered a large cut on his arm - which resulted in an ambulance being called - after lashing out at Forsyths the butchers and Save the Children's shopfronts in the June the 20th attacks, which were captured on CCTV.

Selkirk Sheriff Court today (Monday) heard the teenager lost his temper after someone else smashed the window of the pub he'd been drinking in.

In an appeal for a suitable disposal, solicitor Liam Alexander said his client should be made to "pay for his stupidity".

Passing sentence, Sheriff Peter Anderson said it was particularly offensive that Sinclair - who works at a hotel in Cardrona - had left a charity out of pocket; and, he added, alcohol was no excuse.
