Man who robbed 75-year-old woman in Peebles appears in court

Sentence has been further deferred on a 57-year-old man who robbed a pensioner in Peebles.

Selkirk Sheriff Court today (Thursday) heard background reports were unavailable for Colin Boyle, after a stay in hospital prevented him attending an appointment with social workers.

He previously admitted carrying out the attack on the 75-year-old woman near his home in the town's Cuddyside on April 25th, 2022.

The court heard he seized the strap of her handbag - causing her to fall to the ground - before escaping with the bag and its contents.

Sheriff Janys Scott noted Boyle's "long record", which included time in custody,

But she said she would him a final opportunity to attend, after he appeared in the dock with a walking stick, after rupturing an artery in his leg.

The case will recall on March 4th.
