Pensioner dies following crash which has left woman, 80, in serious condition in hospital

An 87-year-old man has died, and an 80-year-old woman is in a serious condition in hospital, after the car they were travelling in crashed in Peebles.

Emergency services raced to the scene of the single-vehicle smash in the town's Whitehaugh Park after the alarm was raised shortly before 6.30pm last night (Thursday).

Both casualties were taken to hospital after being freed from the Honda HRV, but the man later died from his injuries.

The road was closed for several hours to allow police to carry out a collision investigation, but has since reopened.

Sergeant Philip Winning, from Police Scotland said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and the woman injured in this collision.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what happened and I’m appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, or has any information, to please contact police.

“I’d also ask drivers with dash-cam footage of the area around the time to review this for anything which may assist our enquiries.”
