Vehicle outside Scottish Borders Council HQ destroyed by fire

A vehicle parked opposite Scottish Borders Council's headquarters in Newtown St Boswells has been destroyed by fire.

Police are treating the incident as suspicious.

It was targeted in the car park, used by many visitors to SBC, in Waverley Place sometime between midnight on January 8th and 2.30am on January 9th.

The remains of the burnt-out open-back van are currently sealed off with police tape.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

A spokesperson said: "We are appealing for anyone with any information about this incident to call the police on 101, quoting incident 228, January 9th, 2024. 

"Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
