A 48-year-old man's been charged with brandishing a firearm, and acting in an aggressive and intimidating manner towards his wife, during a disturbance which resulted in a bomb disposal team being called to the Scottish Borders - forcing the closure of the nearby A7, between Hawick and Langholm, for several hours.

Edward Barker is also accused of threatening to shoot police - and kissing one male officer on the cheek - during the incident, which is alleged to have unfolded at the Mosspaul Inn between May 9th and 10th last year.

He pled not guilty to both charges of threatening or abusive behaviour when he appeared at Jedburgh Sheriff Court today (Monday).

And the case has been continued to trial in April next year.

Barker, whose address has been given as Hawick, was released on bail meantime.
