The newly-crowned King and Queen are to be given "a taste of Selkirk Common Riding" during their first official visit to the Borders next week.

More details are emerging of the trip since we first announced Charles and Camilla are heading for the region next Thursday.

After visiting the Great Tapestry of Scotland visitor centre in Galashiels in the morning, the Royal couple will travel to Selkirk, where they will visit the Lochcarron of Scotland weaving mill, which is producing the official tartan for this summer's UCI Cycling World Championships.

The Royal couple will then meet local business owners and be given a taste of the Common Riding during a walkabout in the town's Market Place, around 1pm.

Announcing the details on her social media page, Selkirkshire councillor Caroline Cochrane said: "They are visiting Lochcarron and meeting Cameron Bakers and Colin Turnbull."

Selkirk was granted its Royal Burgh status by King James V in 1535-6, in recognition of the role the town played at the Battle of Flodden.

And crowds turn out every year to remember the fallen during its annual Common Riding.

In celebration of the Royal visit, the Great Tapestry of Scotland visitor centre is offering free entry between 1pm and 5pm on July 6th.

Camilla was forced to cancel her visit to the attraction last September when the late Queen Elizabeth II died.

The official engagements come a day after King Charles and Queen Camilla are due to attend a national service of thanksgiving at St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh, which will include two processions up and down the Royal Mile, and a flypast performed by the Red Arrows.
