There are renewed calls for CCTV to be installed at a play park in the Scottish Borders after vandals smeared a Nazi swastika across its entrance.

Yellow paint was used to spray the hateful symbol and other signs across a path at Shedden Park in Kelso sometime overnight last night (Friday).

It's not the first time the youth hang-out's been targeted - with a trampoline in the children's play area and public toilets also damaged.

The latest incident - just yards from the town's police station - has left locals outraged.

In a post on the community council's Facebook page, a spokesperson said: "This is not acceptable and should never happen again.

"We appeal to anyone who knows any information to this being done to come forward."

Scottish Borders Council have since removed the graffiti from the park, which has had tens of thousands of pounds worth of investment in recent years. Floodlight's have recently been added to a skatepark, which follows investment in a new children's play area.

Kelso Community Council say they're also working with Police Scotland to find those responsible.

They added: “Police Scotland and ourselves have made some positive lines of enquiry and we thank all those who have come forward with information to identify those responsible.

“If you do have any information on this matter, and not yet come forward, please contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.”
