A 19-year-old man who showed an image of a woman asleep in her underwear to another person without her consent has been fined a total of £320 and ordered to pay his victim £250 compensation.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court today (Monday) heard Daniel Ball, from Kelso, had been trying to prove to a friend he had been with the woman on the date the picture was taken, when he displayed the image at the town's Black Swan Hotel on July the 14th.

Prosecutor India McLean said the woman wasn't aware that the image had been taken.

Ball's solicitor, Ed Hulme, explained his client had taken a selfie when she was, in the background, on his bed.

He went on to say Ball accepted he had been "reckless", adding it was just "utter stupidity".

In addition to the fines, the teenager's also been banned from contacting the woman for two years.
