Timeline revealed for campaign to save swimming pool in Jedburgh
Last updated 27th Aug 2024
The operators of the public swimming pool in Jedburgh have announced the town centre baths will remain open - at least until the end of the week.
A question mark hangs over its future due to soaring bills and a drop in membership.
But councillors are expected to discuss a potential rescue package when they meet on Thursday, as money raised through an online crowdfunder nears £6,000.
The future delivery of sport, leisure and culture services is already on the agenda, as Scottish Borders Council (SBC) gets set to rubber-stamp the transfer of the Active Schools and Sports Development services from Live Borders, another trust which has been struggling to balance the books.
A spokesperson for Jedburgh Leisure Facilities Trust said: "A full council meeting will be held this Thursday, during which the future funding of the pool is decided. LMP trustees continue to collaborate with SBC to achieve the best possible outcome for pool staff and users.
"We expect to be able to provide a further update on Friday morning.
"The pool will remain open until this further announcement and, hopefully, thereafter."
Jedburgh Leisure Facilities Trust has revealed annual energy costs have tripled from £18,000 to more than £54,000 in the past couple of years. That's despite a new boiler and efficiency savings.
Scottish Borders Council has confirmed it's looking at what further support may be available.
