A 24-year-old man from the Borders who threatened to stab two police officers in the neck while brandishing a knife has today (Monday) been jailed for a total of 14 months.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court heard police had been responding to reports of a domestic in the town's Bongate View in May last year when Colin Adamson picked up the weapon.

Drew Long, prosecuting, said he was asked to put it down but became more and more irate - shouting: "I'll (expletive) rip you; I'll stab you in the (expletive) neck and I'll stab him in the (expletive) neck."

The ten-minute stand-off only ended when extra officers arrived and Adamson was tackled to the ground as he reached for a drink.

Adamson, who had earlier caused damage to a bedroom door by punching it, admitted two charges of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner when he appeared via a video-link, as well as a breach of his bail.

Solicitor Ed Hulme said his client had initially engaged with police, who were responding to reports he had become "abusive and hostile" towards a 16-year-old living with him at the property.

He explained Adamson picked up a small pocket knife, he'd earlier thrown behind a TV, because he thought officers had finished dealing with them.

But, when they questioned his actions, things "spiralled".

The jail sentence was backdated to July the 13th when he was first remanded in custody.

In addition, Adamson was made the subject of a non-harassment order, preventing him from contacting the complainer for a period of three years.
