Part of the newest secondary school in the Borders had to be sealed off, and a number of classes moved, after concrete fell from a ceiling.

Engineers were called in to Jedburgh Grammar Campus following the incident in the school's fitness suite over the weekend.

Scottish Borders Council (SBC) says the room in the £32 million building - which has won several architectural awards since it opened four years ago - was unoccupied at the time.

And an investigation has found no concerns over the structure.

A local authority spokesperson said: "Over the weekend a small amount of concrete infill material fell from the ceiling of the fitness suite whilst it was unoccupied at Jedburgh Grammar Campus.

“The area was closed and classes relocated on Monday and Tuesday to enable engineers to carry out the necessary investigations.

"These have now been completed and reassurance provided that there are no structural concerns. As a result the fitness suite has been reopened."
