A Borders couple caught with heroin with a potential street value of more than £1,600 have been warned of the dangers of dealing in the Class A drug.

Sheriff Peter Anderson noted Zac Mawer and Nacisha Todd, also known as Jones, got involved through their own drug use - but said it was a "nasty, dirty, trade".

Selkirk Sheriff Court today (Monday) heard police seized two bags of heroin - weighing a total of 32.9g - along with around £1,000 in cash, after swooping on Todd's address at Gala Park Gardens in Galashiels last year.

Both pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug between January 20th and May 25th, 2023.

The pair also admitted possession of cocaine at the same address while, in a separate charge, they pled guilty to possession of Class C drugs diazepam and bromazolam at Mawer's home in Somerville Way, Jedburgh.

Sheriff Anderson pointed out being involved in the supply of Class A drugs can attract a custodial sentence.

But he instead ordered Mawer, aged 28, and Todd, aged 26, to each carry out 180 hours of unpaid work, and fined both £210.
