A warning's being issued about the dangers of lithium batteries.

It comes after a home in Jedburgh was left "ruined" following a fire this weekend.

Emergency services raced to the scene, in the town's Bountrees area, after the alarm was raised shortly after midday on Saturday.

Fire crews from Galashiels, Hawick, Kelso and Lauder helped extinguish the blaze, which is believed to have been sparked by an electric bike's lithium battery.

Photographs shared in an online crowdfunder show the devastation left behind - with walls blackened by smoke and furnishings destroyed.

More than £1,500 has been raised for the family forced out of their home in just 24 hours.

Kym Hall, who launched the fundraiser, said: "Rosie and her three kids - aged 13, 11, and 5 have been left with nothing due to the extent and is having to bunk with friends for the time being.

"Every room has been affected due to smoke or fire itself."

Another added: "If this can spread ANY awareness for charging any sort of electrical bikes/scooters etc in the house please think twice. This happened in a matter of minutes and the whole house was gone."
