Police searching for a missing 55-year-old woman in Hawick have found a body.

Jacqueline Trimby was last seen walking her dogs in the town's Chay Blyth Place, between 10am and 11am yesterday (Tuesday) morning.

However, it's believed she left her house later that evening and didn’t return.

Officers say the last anyone heard from Jacqueline was around 9pm on August 1st when she spoke to a family member on the phone.

Sniffer dogs and the Borders Water Rescue Team were drafted in to help search for her in the early hours of this morning.

And police have this evening confirmed the body of a woman was found near Burnfoot, Hawick, around 2pm today (Wednesday).

A spokesperson for the force said: "Although the woman has yet to be formally identified, the family of Jacqueline Trimby, missing from Hawick since yesterday, has been informed.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
