'So far the kids have thrown at us a large traffic cone and two planks of wood'

A trike-travelling eco-warrior pedalling across the UK to raise awareness of environmental issues has revealed he was given a rough ride while making his way through the Borders.
Martin Hutchinson and his rescue dog Starsky had sought shelter from the rain at the football stand in Innerleithen last night (Tuesday) when they were targeted by youths.
"So far the kids have thrown at us a large traffic cone and two planks of wood," he posted on social media.
Horrified locals have apologised for the youths' behaviour, responding with offers of support and well-wishes for his journey ahead.

One said: "That is appalling."
Another added: "So sorry the idiots have greeted you this way. Innerleithen is a warm welcoming place, if you need anything please message me."
A third said: "My son met you today when you stopped by the bike shop. He was amazed at what you're doing. Hope you're okay. Good luck on the next part of your journey."

Martin and his beloved pooch - nicknamed Starsky and Hutch after the popular 1970s detective show - revealed they are making their way to Wales, and have given talks in more than 700 schools along the way.
"I have walked 34,000km across 21 countries and cycled 35,000km across 16 to hightlight what we are doing to our environment," Martin said.

The football stand at Victoria Park is home to East of Scotland League side Vale of Leithen and has been the scene of a number of vandalism attacks in recent times.
Last year, three teenagers were charged after part of the stand at the public park, where Martin is sheltering, was set on fire.
