A 28-year-old man's appeared in court in connection with the theft of three mountain bikes in Innerleithen.

Selkirk Sheriff Court today (Monday) heard the cycles - said to be worth around £9,000 - were taken from a shed in the town's Miller Street overnight, between July the 29th and 30th last year.

Brendan Watson - who gave an address in Edinburgh - admitted the offence and sentence was deferred until September 4th for background reports.

Meanwhile, Police Scotland has announced it's holding a free event aimed at reducing the risk of bike theft in Peebles this week.

It's part of the Fringe programme, organised to coincide with the arrival of the UCI Cycling World Championships - which sees some of the best riders on the planet competing on the trails in and around Glentress.

Cyclists can get their bike marked and registered at the End Bike Crime event in The Park Hotel, on Innerleithen Road, from Tuesday to Saturday (August 8th to 12th).

A pump track is also being set up at the venue, with Scottish Cycling hosting free come and try sessions - with free access to bikes and coaches.
