The latest plans for the new Mountain Bike Innovation Centre at Innerleithen are set to go on display in the town's Memorial Hall this evening (Tuesday).

Plans to convert Caerlee Mill had to be abandoned amid concerns over soaring costs.

Last month, permission was granted to demolish thie historic building to pave the way for the £19 million development, which is predicted to generate more than £100m for the local economy and create over 400 jobs over the next 10 years.

And tonight's event - which runs between 6pm and 8pm - is designed to give locals the chance to have their say on the new design ahead of a fresh planning application being submitted.

Plans to convert the Caerlee Mill building had to be abandoned.

A spokesperson for the project - which is being delivered by South of Scotland Enterprise, with support from Scottish Borders Council and Napier University - said: "The Mountain Bike Innovation Centre project has taken a major step forward with permission granted to remove the main building on the Caerlee Mill site.

"The approval of the plans to demolish the building paves the way for SOSE to submit a planning application to build a new Centre on the same site in Innerleithen.

"The Mountain Bike Innovation Centre will be funded by a £19million investment from the UK Government as part of the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal, including £4m to be allocated towards the Tweed Valley Bike Park and Trail Lab.

"Further discussion of the demolition process will take place with local residents to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum.

"A planning application to build a new Centre is currently being prepared."
