A man has died following a two-car crash on the A7 north of Heriot.

The 23-year-old was driving a black Audi A3 near to the Borders boundary with Midlothian when it was involved in a collision with a black Range Rover.

Emergency services raced to the scene, just south of the junction for Tynehead, after the alarm was raised around 12.40pm yesterday (Sunday).

But he was pronounced dead on their arrival.

Three people in the other vehicle were also injured - a 45-year-old man who was driving the Range Rover, and his two passengers; a 15-year-old girl and a nine-year-old boy.

They were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the Royal Hospital for Children in Edinburgh for treatment.

The road was closed for more than seven hours while officers examined the scene but has since reopened.

And police are now appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
