Police are appealing for information after thieves stole 23,000 litres of heating oil from a fuel depot in the Borders.

It follows a raid on a premises in Earlston Road, Newtown St Boswells - where Johnston Oils has its regional base - around 1.45am on Saturday (April 29th).

Those responsible are suspected of using hoses to extract the kerosene, believed to be worth a five figure sum of money.

And it's thought they may have used a route through a nearby wooded area and embankment to reach the tanks and make their escape via the A68.

Detective Sergeant Bruce Dodds, from Police Scotland, said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to find those responsible and we are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious near the depot to get in touch.

“We are also asking anyone who saw people acting strangely on the nearby A68 to get in touch, especially if you saw any vehicles parked or saw items being loaded onto a vehicle.

“In addition, if you were driving in the area and have dash-cam footage that could assist our enquiries then please call us.”
