Thieves steal two tipper trucks during £100,000 raid on council depot in Hawick

Two tipper trucks and high-value gardening equipment have been stolen during a break-in at a council depot in Hawick.

It happened in the town's Lower Mansfield Road in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).

Other machinery is also understood to have been taken, with the total cost of the theft and damage estimated to be more than £100,000.

It was discovered by a worker on arrival at the premises, around 6.10am.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Detective Constable Callum Wood said: “Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and we are appealing for the local community to pass on any information which could help our investigation.

“We would particularly urge anyone with private CCTV or dashcam footage of the area to please check in case they have captured anything which could be of significance.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0528 of Wednesday, June 19th, 2024. Alternatively you can speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
