Police are hunting an armed robber who threatened staff at a convenience store in Hawick.

The thief - who was wearing a black balaclava over his face - entered the Nisa on Dickson Street around 8pm last night (Wednesday).

He attempted to access the till and Post Office area before threatening a member of staff with a bladed weapon, and continued to search the till area.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what was stolen, but the suspect is believed to have left with a quantity of cash from the till.

He is described as being around 5ft 7ins tall, of medium build, and dressed all in black.

Officers say the incident lasted less than a minute and are now appealing to the public for help to catch him.

“Anyone who saw a suspicious man in the area, or has information to help police enquiries, should get in touch as soon as possible.”
