Tributes are being paid to a 23-year-old man who died following a two-car crash on the A7 at the weekend.

Finlay Street, from Hawick, was driving a black Audi A3 north of Heriot when it was involved in a collision with a black Range Rover around 12.40pm on Sunday.

He’s being described as “an incredible young lad” and “one of life’s good guys”.

Friends at his local rugby club, Hawick Linden, have shared a photograph of him in his strip on their Facebook page.

A message alongside reads: "The club is in complete shock at hearing the devastating news of the tragic death of Finlay Street in a road traffic accident on Sunday at the much too young age of just 23.

"Finlay made his debut at Selkirk in a pre-season friendly on 20 August 2021 and went on to make 14 appearances that season. He made six more in 2022/23 for a total of 20, scoring his only try at Penicuik in November 2022, diving over following a tap penalty.

"He last played for the club in January in the narrow 18-19 defeat to Corstorphine at the Volunteer Park.

"All at the club pass on their heartfelt condolences to all of his family and friends at this terrible time. Rest easy Finlay."

The crash, near the Borders boundary with Midlothian, also claimed the life of the other driver - 45-year-old Mark Williams, who lived in Heriot, died in hospital on Tuesday.

Two children - a 15-year-old girl and a boy, aged 9, who were passengers in the Range Rover - were also taken to hospital following the collision. Their condition is unknown.

In a statement, Mr Williams' family say: "We are devastated with the news and coming to terms with the loss of our husband, brother, dad and son.

“We respectfully request our privacy while the family deal with this tragedy.”

Mr Williams was chief executive of waste firm, The NWH Group. In a statement, the company said: "It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge the recent passing of our beloved friend and CEO, Mark Williams.

"The loss of Mark has deeply affected us, and we are still coming to terms with this profound grief."
