Two men have appeared in court in connection with a cannabis farm unearthed in a former carpet warehouse in Hawick.

Police found 360 plants - estimated to be worth £105,000 - when they raided the shuttered building on Havelock Street on May 9th last year.

At Jedburgh Sheriff Court this morning (Monday), Bardhok Cara, who's 23, and 22-year-old Kristjan Prendi both pled guilty to being concerned in the production of a controlled drug, by growing and maintaining it.

The court heard the pair - Albanian nationals, who had proceedings relayed to them via an interpreter - have no previous convictions.

Sentence has been deferred until February 10th for background reports, and they were remanded in custody meantime.

Speaking at the time of the raid, Detective Chief Inspector Robert Campbell, from Police Scotland, said: “This is a significant recovery which underlines our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country’s Serious Organised Crime Strategy.

“We will always look to act on any information received on the supply of illegal substances and would encourage anyone with information about drugs in their area to get in touch.

“Anyone with concerns can contact Police Scotland via 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Two Albanian men fled the former carpet warehouse in Hawick when it was raided by police - but they were later apprehended.
