'Serious and significant concerns' raised over quality of care at Hawick nursing home
Last updated 22nd Aug 2025
Serious and significant concerns have been raised about the quality of care at St Andrew's Care Home in Hawick.
The Care Inspectorate has issued an urgent Improvement Notice to managers following a recent inspection.
And, it warns, unless action is taken, it intends to make a proposal to cancel its registration.
Park Homes, which operates the site in Stirches, says the safety and well-being of residents is its number one priority, and it's working with all its stakeholders to address any identified shortcomings.
Among the recommendations being made, the health watchdog says St Andrew's must undergo thorough deep clean, and ensure all staff are trained, inducted and assessed as competent in Infection Prevention and Control.
An upgrade of the internal facilities and external fabric of the building and grounds to create a safe, comfortable, and functional environment that promotes mental and physical well-being is also required.
And bosses must ensure sufficient staffing levels are in place to deliver timely, responsive care and support to service users at all times.
