Two men have been charged in connection with drugs offences after police swooped on the former Buccleuch Hotel in Hawick this morning (Thursday).

It's understood a cannabis farm has been unearthed in the Trinity Street building.

Water had been seen flowing out the other side of the property, which looks onto the town's Morrisons supermarket, in the months leading up to the raid.

It has been sealed off with police tape for much of the day, with marked police vehicles parked outside.

Describing the scenes, one eye-witness said: "It looked pretty major. Police (were) wearing blue latex gloves". Another added: "There was quite a bit off plastic sheeting behind the door."

A spokesperson said: “Around 9.40am on Thursday, October 5th, officers executed a warrant at a building on Trinity Street in Hawick.

“Two men, aged 30 and 40, have been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.”
