A five-figure haul's been stolen during a break-in at a phone shop in Hawick.

It happened in the High Street in the early hours of yesterday (Tuesday) morning.

Footage has emerged of two suspects appearing to worm their way into Fonehouse store.

The shop was forced to close as a result of the raid, but has since reopened.

It comes just weeks after an armed robber threatened staff at a convenience store in Hawick.

The thief - who was wearing a black balaclava over his face - entered the Nisa on Dickson Street around 8pm on December 27th.

Jewellery worth a four-figure sum was also stolen during an early-morning break-in at Global Antiques in Hawick's High Street back in September, although a man was later arrested in connection with that raid.

Police are appealing for anyone with information on the latest incident to contact them.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We would appeal to motorists who have dash-cam footage or residents with private CCTV to get in touch, you may have captured something that could assist our enquiries.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting 0212 of January 16th, 2024."
