Man, 41, appears in court following 'smash and grab' raid in Hawick
A 41-year-old man has been remanded in custody after he admitted stealing from a High Street store in Hawick.
Jewellery worth a four-figure sum was taken during what was described as a "smash and grab" raid on Global Antiques in the early hours of Monday morning.
Wayne Wilkes, who gave an address in Hawick, pled guilty to a charge of theft by housebreaking when he appeared from custody at Selkirk Sheriff Court this afternoon (Wednesday).
Sentence was deferred for background reports until October 9th when the case will recall at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

Police had earlier issued an appeal for witnesses after traces of blood were left on the smashed shop front, asking if anyone had seen a man wearing a military-style camouflage jumper and dark raincoat.
