Two e-bikes have been reported stolen following a smash and grab raid on a family-run bike shop in the Scottish Borders.

Hardie's Bikes, on Abbey Street in Melrose, is believed to have been targeted in the early hours of Sunday morning (July 20th), between 4am and 5.30am.

An appeal's been issued to anyone with camera footage in the area around that time to contact police.

The window of the property was boarded up following the incident.

In a post on the shop's Facebook page, a spokesperson said: "Early this morning some scumbag smashed the front window of the shop and stole two Orbea e-bikes.

"Please keep an eye out for them, call me or the police if you see them."

It's the latest in a series of break-ins in the Borders in recent weeks.

Equipment and vehicles were taken during raids on two council depots in Coldstream and Duns sometime overnight on Wednesday last week.

That came less than three weeks after a High Street premises in Coldstream - believed to be the Co-op - was broken into during the early hours of the morning.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing.”
