A south of Scotland beauty spot is set to temporarily close to allow vital conservation work to be carried out.

The nature reserve at Grey Mare's Tail, near Moffat, will be out of bounds to the public on Monday evening (August 26th), and then again all day on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The car park is also being closed to allow helicopters to land and move materials for path and fence repairs.

The National Trust for Scotland, which manages the site, is apologising for any inconvenience.

A spokesperson told Greatest Hits Radio: "The team will be carrying out routine repairs and conservation work, as well as dropping off materials to build an enclosure to protect mountain willow scrub from grazing.

"Mountain willow scrub is one of the six priority habitats identified in the Trust’s recently published Plan for Nature, which provides a framework and focus for our nature conservation efforts.

"It’s a habitat that is currently under threat from climate change and over grazing, so this particular conservation activity at Grey Mare’s Tail is part of our work to protect it."
