Teenager fighting for life in hospital following collision between car and motorcycle
Last updated 9th Aug 2023
A 19-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a car in the Scottish Borders.
The smash happened on the A6105, west of Gordon, around 1.20pm yesterday (Tuesday).
Emergency services - including five ambulances and an air ambulance - raced to the scene, near Greenknowe Tower, after the alarm was raised.
And the road between Earlston and Greenlaw was closed for several hours while crash investigators examined the scene and the wreckage was cleared.
The 53-year-old woman driving a Skoda Yeti car, and her male passenger, did not require hospital treatment.
But the teenager riding a black Kawasaki motorbike was airlifted to the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, where staff describe his condition as "critical".
Police are now appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
Sergeant Dominic Doyle, from Police Scotland's Divisional Road Policing Unit, said: “I would appeal for any witnesses to the crash, or anyone driving on the road, shortly before the incident, to contact us. I am also keen to hear from any drivers with dash-cam footage that may help assist our enquiries to please get in touch.
“Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting reference number 1708 of August 8th.”
