It's been another busy weekend for our local rescue teams.

A mountain biker was rushed to hospital after getting injured at Glentress today (Sunday).

It's understood to be at least the eighth time Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team has been called out to the Borders beauty spot in the past four months.

Earlier in the afternoon, Coastguard volunteers in Eyemouth and Berwick teamed up to rescue a walker who suffered a suspected broken ankle, on the coastal path near Coldingham Bay.

The volunteers applied first aid before the casualty was taken by ambulance to hospital.

A local farmer helped by tranporting emergency equipment on their quad bike.

It wasn't the Berwick team's first call-out of the weekend, however.

On Friday afternoon, they responded to reports of seven people struggling chest-deep in water on the Pilgrims Way - the historic route linking the island with the mainland.

Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service also rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised.

But, whilst the Berwick team was making their way south, information was received that all persons were out of the water and safe with colleagues from Holy Island Coastguard.

It's prompted a reminder to anyone venturing to the Holy Island to check the safe-crossing times on the Northumberland County Council website before setting off.

A spokesperson said: "When crossing on the Pilgrims Way, always cross on a receeding tide (as people did on this occasion), and plan to have completed your crossing by the time the tide turns.

"When crossing, be aware that there may still be deep sections of water as the tide goes out.

"We don't ever recommend entering any pools of water while you cross as you cannot see what is under foot.

"If you do plan on entering the water to wade, please take a wading pole to check the ground immediately ahead of you."

Motorists wait to cross the Holy Island causeway as the tide recedes on Sunday.
