Woman, 83, dies following crash outside primary school in Galashiels

An 83-year-old woman has died following a two-car crash outside a primary school in Galashiels.
The pensioner was driving a black Seat Altea on Abbotsford Road when it was involved in a collision with a grey Honda CRV, shortly before 11am this morning (Thursday).
She was rushed to Borders General Hospital but died a short time later.
The driver of the Honda - a 78-year-old man - was also taken to Borders General Hospital, along with his three passengers - a 75-year-old woman, a 46-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy.
Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A section of the A7, near St Peter's Primary School, was closed for several hours while police examined the scene and the wreckage was cleared.
Officers are now appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Sergeant Jennifer Niven said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
“We are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
"In addition, if you have dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation, then please contact us.”

Three ambulances were among the emergency services to respond.
An air ambulance was also called out from Glasgow, but turned back around Blyth Bridge.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 10:56 hours to attend a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Abbotsford Road, Galashiels.
"We dispatched two ambulances, one trauma team and one air ambulance to the scene.
"Four patients were transported to Borders General Hospital.”
