A 26-year-old man accused of permanently disfiguring another by striking him on the head with a glass bottle - causing it to smash - has appeared in court.

Jordan Whittaker, of Chris Paterson Place, Galashiels, has been charged with assaulting the man in the town's Iceland car park on December 17th, 2021.

It's alleged he pushed him on the body, repeatedly struck and kicked him on the head and body, and seized him by his clothing, before striking him with a glass bottle - to his injury.

He's also accused of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner in the same High Street location, by repeatedly shouting and swearing, making threats of violence, and uttering an offensive remark.

On the same day, Whittaker is also charged with assaulting another man in the store's car park - by repeatedly striking him on the head to his injury.

And, at the same place, he's accused of repeatedly kicking a woman, and seizing her body, to her injury.

Whittaker denied all four charges when he appeared on indictment at Selkirk Sheriff Court today (Tuesday), and the case was continued to trial on November 17th.
