Police have revealed they believe a stolen car found abandoned following a crash in Hawick may be linked to an attempted house-breaking in Galashiels.

And an appeal's being issued to the public for information.

Officers first received a report of a dark blue Land Rover having collided with two parked vehicles in the Wilson Drive area of Hawick, around 3.20am on Friday.

The vehicle was later found abandoned by officers in the Sleepy Valley Park area of the town.

Following enquiries, officers confirmed the Land Rover had been stolen from outside a property in the Stable Gardens area of Galashiels.

Around 8.20am, on the same date, police received a report of an attempt housebreaking which had taken place overnight in the Queen Elizabeth Square area - both part of the same Melrose Gait development.

Detective Constable Nicky Batten, of Police Scotland, said: "Our enquiries are ongoing and I would urge anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in any of these areas to contact us.

"We'd also be keen to hear from anyone who may have private CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0403 of 16 May, 2025, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
