A Galashiels street has been sealed off this evening (Thursday) following a crash involving a car and two pedestrians.

Cones have been placed around an object on the roadway, which has been closed to traffic.

And motorists are being urged to avoid the area.

Hall Street, which is made up of a number of local homes and businesses, has been sealed off with police tape at either end, with traffic coming down Kirk Brae having to turn back.

Traffic is also being prevented from turning off at the junction with the A72, which runs between Peebles and Galashiels.

Officers say they expect the road to remain closed for some time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Hall Street in Galashiels is currently closed due to a crash involving a car and two pedestrians.

"Emergency services are in attendance and enquiries are ongoing.

"Please avoid the area if possible. Local diversions are in place."
