A 42-year-old man has appeared in court in the Borders charged with two road traffic offences.

It follows an alleged hit-and-run outside Car Parts 4U in Galashiels, in which two pedestrians were reportedly injured.

Emergency services swooped on the town's Hall Street after the alarm was raised around 2.40pm yesterday (Thursday).

A 47-year-old man was taken to hospital following the incident, while a 50-year-old woman was treated at the scene.

Police say a BMW believed to have been involved was later traced by officers.

Hugh Sutherland, from Clackmannanshire, appeared from custody at Jedburgh Sheriff Court today (Friday).

He faces a total of six charges. As well as the two driving charges, he's also been charged with assault, assault to injury and assault to severe injury, and culpable and reckless conduct.

Sutherland made no plea during the private appearance and was committed for further examination.

He has been released on bail until his next court appearance, with the date yet to be confirmed.
