Car 'torched' outside home in Galashiels as police launch probe

Police have confirmed they're treating a fire in Galashiels, in which a car was completely burnt out, as deliberate.

The Subaru Forester was targeted while parked in the town's Windyknowe Road in the early hours of Sunday morning.

An Audi A4 was also damaged after the flames spread to a garage.

The BBC has reported that the blaze may be connected to the owner’s work as an insolvency practitioner.

The fire unfolded around 12.30am on August the 25th. Officers say there were no reports of any injuries.

Detective Constable Liam Myers, from Police Scotland, said: “I’m appealing to anyone with information on what happened to get in touch with us.

“If you have doorbell cameras, private CCTV or a dashcam, please review your footage and bring anything of significance to our attention.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 1.55am on Sunday to reports of a domestic garage on fire on Windyknowe Road, Galashiels.

"Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances to the scene, where crews extinguished a fire affecting one car in a garage.

"Firefighters worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene.

"There were no casualties."
