A woman was left shaken after being attacked by a man while out walking her dog in Galashiels.

The 41-year-old was close to the junction of Hill Street and Croft Street when she was approached and threatened during the incident, which police are describing as an attempted robbery, around 12.45am this morning (Friday).

The suspect fled after the woman's dog began barking and detectives are now appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

He's described as being white, in his 30s, around 5ft 8 in height, with a stocky build and short dark hair. He was wearing a grey jumper, grey shorts with stripes down the side, and spoke with a Scottish accent.

Detective Constable Claire White, of Police Scotland, said: “This was understandably a frightening incident for the victim, who should have been able to walk the streets with her dog without fear of being attacked.

“We are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify the man involved and are asking for anyone who was in the area, or may have private CCTV, video doorbell or dashcam footage to please come forward.

“You can call police on 101, quoting incident 0120 of September 8th, 2023. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”
