A pensioner has died and another is fighting for her life in hospital following a two-car crash in the Scottish Borders.
A grey Nissan Note and a white Ford Kuga were involved in a collision on the A703, north of Eddleston, shortly after 3pm yesterday (Monday).
Emergency services were scrambled after the alarm was raised but an 86-year-old man, who was a passenger in the Nissan, was pronounced dead at the scene.
An 82-year-old woman, who was driving the vehicle, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where she remains in critical condition.
The driver of the Ford - a 40-year-old man - was also taken to hospital for treatment and later released.
The road was closed between Leadburn and Peebles for around six hours while the wreckage was cleared and police examined the scene.
