Pensioners in Eyemouth have been left "traumatised" after their garden shed was destroyed by fire.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised.

But many of the items inside could not be saved.

The incident unfolded in the town's Callercove area between 7pm and 8pm on Friday.

Devastating images shared on social media this afternoon by the couple's son show the aftermath.

Pictures of the aftermath of the fire have been shared on social media.

The man, who we are not naming, said: "As you can see in the pictures, there is a massive amount of damage caused and a lot of money's worth of stuff destroyed.

"They are both pensioners and have been greatly scared and traumatised.

"This happened between 7pm and 8pm last night and I am looking for information from anyone."

Locals have rallied in support of the family.

One said: "This is absolutely awful. We could smell the smoke up in Dulse Craig. Hope you find out who is responsible."

Another agreed, branding those responsible for the suspected arson attack "mindless". They said: "I hope you find them because this could have spread to houses and a worse outcome."

A third added: "I am so glad your mum and dad didn’t get badly hurt and it didn’t spread further. This is absolutely terrible. I heard all the sirens up here and knew something really bad happened."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

Locals say the fire could have spread to neighbouring homes.
