A 44-year-old woman who admitted being responsible for three Miniature Schnauzers which were dangerously out of control in Eyemouth on seven occasions last year has been banned from owning, possessing or caring for a dog for 18 months.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court heard one of the animals barked aggressively and chased a child at the town's primary school, while another lunged at a police officer.

Two women were also bit in separate attacks at the town's caravan park and general store areas, while all three barked, growled and lunged at a man and his Labrador.

All the incidents took place between June and December 2024.

Paxton told Jedburgh Sheriff Court she'd promised her late mum she'd look after Annie, Trevor and Jasper for the rest of their lives.

She claimed the dogs had on occasion been provoked by local children, who had kicked her gates through, but explained she now has new bolts to secure her garden.

Paxton, who represented herself in court, said: "When people run the dogs chase them because they think it's a game. A lot of the kids do it on purpose."

Sheriff Peter Paterson ordered that the pets, which are currently being housed in kennels, are rehomed - rather than destroyed - after hearing that they have been well behaved since being removed from her home in Haymons Cove.

He said the ban would have been longer but for the timing of her plea.

Paxton, who had also pled guilty to five breaches of a dog control order by failing to ensure her pets were muzzled and kept on a lead in public at all times, was otherwise admonished.
