An investigation has been launched following an armed robbery at a store in Earlston.

A man has entered the premises - believed to be the Morrisons garage on the A68 - armed with a knife and demanded money from the till, before escaping with a "small sum of cash".

Police say no-one was injured in the incident, which unfolded in the Melrose Road area around 7pm last night (Sunday, December 29th), but a member of staff was left "very upset".

The suspect - whose face was partially covered by a black scarf - is described as being white and around six foot in height.

He was wearing a black puffer style coat, with the hood up, and navy joggers.

Officers are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Detective Constable Liam Myers, from Police Scotland, said: “Fortunately no-one was injured but the staff member was left very upset by what happened. Our enquiries are ongoing to trace the man.

“We are asking anyone who saw anything to get in touch. If you were driving in the area please check your dash-cam to see if it has captured something that could assist with our investigation.”

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2525 of Sunday, December 29th, or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
