Police probe fire on Duns Castle estate

An investigation's been launched after a birdwatching hut on the Duns Castle estate was found alight last night (Sunday).

The damage is estimated at around £3,000.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

A spokesperson said: "About 8pm on Sunday (August 18th), a report was received that the birdwatching hut within Duns Castle Estate was on fire.

"Anyone who has any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 3358 of August 18th 2024.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed one fire appliance was called out to extinguish the blaze.

A spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.04pm on Sunday, 18 August, to reports of an unused bird hut well alight in Duns Castle Estate, Berwickshire.

"Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance to the scene where crews extinguished the fire.

"There were no casualties, and firefighters left after ensuring the area was safe."
