WATCH: Proposed ban on trail hunting 'not about the foxes'
Last updated 2nd Jan 2026
The Master of the Duke of Buccleuch Hounds is expressing concerns over plans to ban trail hunting in England and Wales.
Huntsman, Poppy Tutcher teamed up with Lauderdale Hunt Club for their annual New Year's Day meet in Melrose on Thursday.
She was asked for her views on Labour's new animal welfare strategy ahead of the lastest in a series of public outings over the festive period.
Over 20 years after the 2004 Hunting Act was introduced, the UK government says concerns persist around illegal hunting being carried out under the guise of trail hunting.
But Sir Ben Wallace, chairman of the Campaign for Future Hunting, has described it as an attack on the rural way of life and believes resources would be better spent tackling rural crime and the cost of living crisis.
