Emergency services were called out to the Berwickshire village around 4.35am on Sunday, amid concerns someone had been seriously injured at an address there.
But the 31-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
The area around the house in Windram Road - which looks on to a children's playpark - was sealed off by police.
Officers say they'll maintain a high-profile presence in the community while their investigation is ongoing.
Corey Dryden, also aged 31 and whose address was given as Berwickshire, made no plea to the charge when he appeared in private, and on petition, at Jedburgh Sheriff Court today (Tuesday).
He was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.
He's due to appear in court again within the next eight days.
Chief Inspector Stuart Fletcher, Police Scotland's Local Area Commander, said: “We understand this incident will cause concern within the local community and I want to reassure residents that there will be an ongoing police presence in the area.
"Additional patrols are being carried out and I would encourage anyone with concerns to speak to officers.”
